Celebrating 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Tajudeen Abbas, assured Nigerians that the benefits of democracy would reach more citizens.

“Our democracy has matured over the past 25 years,” Abbas remarked in his Democracy Day statement on Wednesday. “While not perfect, our democratic experience continues to grow.”

This year’s celebration is particularly significant for the National Assembly, marking the one-year anniversary of the 10th Assembly, inaugurated on June 13, 2023.

Abbas emphasized the importance of unity across all demographics. “Nigerians from all tribes, religions, genders, and age groups must contribute to the country’s development,” he stated.

He called for ongoing support for the government, highlighting the collective responsibility of citizens. “A successful government depends on the support and active participation of its people,” he concluded.

Abbas encouraged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and optimistic about the nation’s future. “Nigeria is on a path to becoming a country we can all be proud of.”
