In an effort to prioritize the interests of depositors and employees at Heritage Bank, Sen Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions, has called upon the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) to take action. This comes as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has recently made the decision to revoke the bank’s license.

Sen Abiru, commending the CBN’s decision, expressed his belief that it is a necessary and positive step. Through his special adviser, Prof Uche Uwaleke, he further emphasized the importance of NDIC’s role in protecting the interests of both depositors and employees by ensuring the fair distribution of liquidation dividends.

“The revocation of Heritage Bank’s license by the CBN is a commendable move,” said Sen Abiru, acknowledging the CBN’s proactive approach. “This proactive step by the CBN is crucial for the overall stability of our financial system.”

With the NDIC now overseeing the liquidation process, Sen Abiru stressed the need to safeguard the depositors and employees by effectively managing the distribution of liquidation dividends.

It is evident that Sen Abiru’s concerns lie in protecting the stakeholders of Heritage Bank during this transitional period. By emphasizing the importance of depositor and employee interests, he highlights the significance of maintaining stability within the financial sector.
