A tragic incident occurred today as terrorists launched a deadly attack at Maro Junction, a bustling weekly market in Maro Ward, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. The attack took place on a significant day for Nigerians as they celebrated Democracy Day.
Former Council Chairman, Hon. Cafra Caino, verified the devastating news, revealing that the assailants struck the market at approximately 3:00 PM on Wednesday, unleashing a hail of gunfire upon innocent vendors and shoppers. Tragically, thirteen lives have been lost, with twelve bodies recovered so far. Additionally, twenty individuals sustained various injuries and have been swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care.
This is not the first time the market has fallen victim to such violence, causing great distress among business owners and patrons alike. The situation has sparked widespread panic among residents, who are seeking refuge in neighboring villages for their safety.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the presence of security forces in the area appears to be lacking, leaving the community vulnerable and in dire need of support. Local authorities are urgently appealing to the government to deploy additional security personnel to restore normalcy and instill a sense of safety among the traumatized residents.
Efforts to reach Kaduna State Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, have unfortunately been unsuccessful as he has yet to respond to calls and messages from our correspondent at the time of filing this report.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families during this difficult time. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as they become available.
