The act took place during a meeting at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Tinubu was seen bowing while shaking hands with the esteemed businessman.

Aminu Dantata is a prominent figure in Nigeria’s business landscape. He is a billionaire entrepreneur and the uncle of Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the richest man in Africa.

Dantata is also the patriarch of the illustrious Alhassan Dantata family from Kano State, a lineage renowned for its business acumen and contributions to Nigeria’s economy.

The meeting between President Tinubu and Aminu Dantata occurred on a Tuesday at the presidential villa. The encounter was documented in a series of photographs that quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread reactions.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, addressed the public’s reaction to the gesture.

He explained on his X account that Tinubu’s action was a sign of his deep respect for the 93-year-old Dantata. Onanuga highlighted that such a gesture is characteristic of Tinubu’s respect for elders and noted that Dantata recently celebrated his 93rd birthday on May 19.

The public’s response to Tinubu’s gesture has been varied. Some Nigerians appreciated the president’s show of humility and respect towards an elder statesman.

They viewed it as a commendable act, reflecting cultural values and deference to age and wisdom.

Conversely, others speculated that Tinubu’s gesture was a strategic move to gain favor in the northern region of Nigeria.

These critics suggested that the president might be trying to strengthen his political alliances and support base in the North, particularly among influential figures like Dantata.

The Influence of the Dantata Family
The Alhassan Dantata family holds significant sway in Nigeria, particularly in Kano State.

The family’s business empire and their long-standing contributions to commerce and industry have made them a pillar of the Nigerian economy.

As the chairman of the Dantata Group of Companies, Aminu Dantata’s influence extends across various sectors, including construction, agriculture, and trade.

President Bola Tinubu’s bow to greet Aminu Dantata has sparked a wide range of reactions among Nigerians.

Whether seen as a genuine act of respect or a calculated political move, it highlights the intricate interplay between culture, politics, and public perception in Nigeria.
