A dramatic incident occurred at Banex Junction when a Deputy Director (DD) in charge of operations from the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) slapped a Level 14 officer.

The altercation took place during an attempt by the Deputy Director to secure the release of a vehicle belonging to a Special Assistant (SA) to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.

The sequence of events began when the SA’s vehicle was impounded by DRTS officials for an unspecified violation.

Concerned about the situation, the Deputy Director swiftly made his way to Banex Junction to address the matter personally. However, by the time he arrived, the situation had already been resolved, and the vehicle in question had been released.

Despite the resolution, tensions escalated dramatically. Witnesses reported that upon his arrival, the Deputy Director became agitated and, in a surprising turn of events, physically assaulted the Level 14 officer who had been involved in the vehicle’s detention.

This officer, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken aback by the unprovoked attack.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the FCT Minister was present at the scene.

The ADC’s presence did not appear to deter the Deputy Director’s aggressive behavior, raising questions about the dynamics at play and the potential implications for both the DRTS and the FCT Ministry.

This incident has sparked significant concern among the ranks of the DRTS, as it highlights issues of professionalism, authority, and the appropriate conduct of senior officials.

The assault on the officer, who was merely performing his duties, underscores the potential for abuse of power within governmental agencies.

The incident has prompted calls for a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the Deputy Director’s actions and to ensure accountability.

It is crucial for the integrity of the DRTS and the confidence of the public that such matters are addressed transparently and judiciously.

There are growing demands for measures to be implemented that will prevent similar occurrences in the future. These measures could include training on conflict resolution, clear protocols for handling disputes, and stringent repercussions for those who abuse their positions of power.
