Man docked for allegedly stealing deep freezer

A 34-year-old man, Clement Timothy, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a deep freezer worth N322,000.

The police charged Timothy with four-counts of conspiracy, burglary, assault and theft.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 12.

He alleged that the defendant and two others who are currently on the run, broke into the shop of the complainant, Mrs Rita Daniel, carted away with a deep freezer valued at N322,000 and many goods worth N450,000.

The prosecutor said that the defendant also assaulted James Gidado, a security guard who saw the defendant and his accomplices in the act and raised an alarm.

He said that the offence contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State 2017.

Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Emmanuel said the surety must be civil servants on Grade Level 12 and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case until June 24, hearing.(NAN)
