In a bid to address the dwindling representation of women in Nigeria’s legislative bodies, Chief (Mrs) Rachael Adewumi, the woman leader of the National Association of Nigeria Traders (NANTs) in Abuja, alongside Dr Simon Ibrahim, registrar of the West African Association of Strategic Institute of Educational Administrators, have underscored the importance of encouraging and involving more women in the Nigerian Senate and House of Representatives.

During separate interviews with journalists, held coincidentally during the fellowship award ceremony conferred on the FCT NANTs Woman Leader, Adewumi emphasised the need for increased female participation in parliament, highlighting the invaluable contributions women bring to governance and legislation.

Adewumi, while expressing gratitude for the award bestowed upon her, urged for continued support and recognition of women’s roles in politics and governance.

She emphasised the necessity of inclusive representation, asserting that women’s prudence in resource management makes them indispensable assets in legislative deliberations.

Addressing the declining number of women in legislative chambers, Ibrahim stressed the importance of empowering women in politics.

He cited Adewumi’s exemplary contributions to women empowerment and economic growth through various initiatives, including her NGO, the TAKEM Empowerment Initiatives, and TAKEM Trading Company Limited, as reasons behind her well-deserved recognition.

Adewumi urged women legislators to uphold the interests of Nigerians and showcase their capabilities on a global scale.

She called upon male counterparts to refrain from obstructing women’s participation in national politics, asserting that the nation’s governance should be inclusive and representative of all genders.
