Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has advised animal breeders in the state to take advantage of Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) to improve their livelihood.

Fintiri gave the advice while inaugurating Jambutu Veterinary Clinic in Yola North Local Government Area on Wednesday.

Fintiri, represented by Prof. David Jatau, the Commissioner for Agriculture, said Adamawa was the first state to have keyed into the project in the country.

He said the project would help improve animal health and livelihood of stakeholders as well as improve the socioeconomic development of the state.

The governor assured that his administration would continue doing everything possible for livestock sector for maximum benefit.

Mr Sanusi Abubakar, the National Coordinator L-PRES project, lauded Adamawa government for its support and actualisation of the project in the state.

He said that the project was of maximum benefit to the citizens, the state and country at large.

Mr Secondee Alpha, the L-PRES Adamawa Coordinator, said the project development objective was to improve livestock productivity as the name implies.

“Improve the resilience and commercialisation of some selected value chains, to strengthen the country’s capacity to respond to crisis or emergency,” he said.

According to him, L-PRES has four components including institution and innovation system strengthening.

“Livestock value chain enhancement, which means support to market linkages and support to increase access to finance to producers.

“Crisis prevention and conflict mitigation by support to natural resource management and pasture improvement,” he said.

Alpha added that in the past three months, state team held series of training and workshops for critical stakeholders on the need for peaceful coexistence especially, between farmers and herders in the state.

Alhaji Abubakar Girei, who spoke on behalf of the group, appreciated the commitment of the state government for its support and concern for the livestock sector.

He said that L-PRES project had impacted positively in the sector and assured their support toward the success of the project in the state. (NAN)
