In a scathing critique, Timi Frank, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), labelled the withdrawal of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership as a national disgrace to Nigeria.

Frank highlighted Tinubu’s failure to diplomatically address the issues leading to the exit of the three member states, indicating a concerning breakdown in regional unity and peace during Tinubu’s tenure.

The withdrawal of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso from ECOWAS underscores deep-rooted tensions exacerbated by military coups and socio-economic challenges within the Sahel region.

Frank criticised Tinubu’s leadership, citing his inability to navigate regional politics effectively and alleviate economic hardships faced by Nigerians, which has resulted in a depreciating currency, escalated fuel prices, and heightened insecurity across the nation.

Frank urged President Tinubu to reconsider his policies, seek counsel from former Nigerian Presidents who led ECOWAS, and prioritise Nigeria’s socio-political stability over regional interests.
