Armed returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) on Friday attacked and killed two Jukun youths identified as Sunday Danji and an Okada man along Wukari-Tsukundi road in Wukari local government area of Taraba.
The IDPs who have vowed to renew hostilities if the military fails to allow them settle in their desired location, are now attacking the residents of Wukari local government where Governor Agbu Kefas hails from.
A source said in a telephone conversation that the IDPs are suspected to be Tiv who have been issuing threats of renewed crisis between the Tiv and the Jukuns.
But the residents are calling on the government for a swift security response to avert escalation of the crisis.
Mr Tsoken Danjuma who is a cousin to the deceased, and a resident of Wukari, narrated that “this morning, Sunday and his friend went to Tsukundi on a motorcycle for wedding, so after the wedding on their way back, they hired an Okada that will take them back to Wukari, the local government capital.
“On their way back, at one of the villages where Nigeria soldiers asked the IDP to camp until the government settled the land cases, a group of armed men opened fire on them killing Sunday and the Okada man on the spot while others that were traveling with them are yet to be found,” he said.
At the time of filing this report, the Taraba state police command, through the PPRO, Usman Abdullahi is yet to comment on the attack.
