The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken former Osun State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, to a Federal High Court in Osogbo, alleging his role in causing a faction within the party.

In a marked escalation of tensions, the APC, represented by Ayodele Kusamotu, Yemi Akingbade, R.I.O Oloyede, and B.J Nwayen, contends that Aregbesola lacks the constitutional authority to lead suspended party members in forming the Omoluabi Progressives, a faction within the party.

The APC asserts that the launch of a factional group using the party’s insignia violates both the Nigerian constitution and the party’s internal rules.

This prompts the party to seek a court order proscribing and prohibiting the Omoluabi Progressives within the APC in Osun.

The party’s legal action aims to restrain Aregbesola and his supporters from further establishing any parallel groups or associations within the APC.

The lawsuit, filed as FHC/OS/CS/1/2024 at the Federal High Court, Osogbo judiciary Division, names Aregbesola, the Independent National Electoral Commission, Hon Rasheed Olalekan Afolabi, and Mr Lani Baderinwa as defendants.

The relief sought by the APC underscores the argument that Aregbesola, as the 2nd Defendant, cannot legitimately lead suspended members to form a parallel political association without complying with constitutional provisions and electoral laws.
