In the aftermath of an unsuccessful coup orchestrated by a faction of the National Executive Committee (NEC) members within the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), the Kaduna State Chapter vehemently demands appropriate sanctions against the perpetrators.

The call for accountability comes in response to the unlawful suspension of the elected president, Isaiah Kemje Benjamin, as revealed in a statement jointly signed by Shehu Abdullahi, the chairman, and Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, the secretary.

The statement, issued on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, highlights the urgency of addressing this subversion of SWAN’s leadership.

The unsettling episode revolves around four SWAN NEC members who, in a dubious move, attempted to suspend Isaiah Benjamin during a purportedly sponsored jamboree in Uyo.

Allegedly backed by the Akwa Ibom FA Normalisation Committee chairman, these actions have drawn strong condemnation.

In a strongly-worded statement, Kaduna SWAN expresses its shock at the attempt to sideline their duly elected president.

They denounce the “jokers” involved and demand the heaviest sanctions for those seeking to tarnish the association’s reputation.

The statement emphasizes the violation of SWAN’s statutes and warns against allowing such actions to go unpunished.

Kaduna SWAN raises concerns about the potential long-term damage to the association’s integrity if such actions are not met with appropriate consequences.

The statement serves as a plea to all well-meaning Nigerians and sports enthusiasts to dismiss these disruptive elements and support Isaiah Benjamin’s efforts to unite the previously divided association.
