The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has raised alarm over what it describes as a sinister plot by a highly placed government official to blackmail and tarnish the reputation of the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd).

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the group stated its commitment to supporting government officials and institutions engaged in positive actions.

However, it asserted that it will not hesitate to expose those who neglect their responsibilities for frivolous pursuits.

Onwubiko emphasized, “I, as a Nigerian and civil rights activist supporting Nigeria’s efforts against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, have a responsibility to raise the alarm when I observe a satanic plot to derail the progress made.”

“We are using this press conference to alert Mr. President, Marwa, and the Nigerian public about this alleged plot. Onwubiko also issued a warning to the official behind the plot, stating they will publicly name and expose the individual if the agenda against the Nigerian State persists.”

Furthermore, he advised officials with sensitive national assignments to focus on their responsibilities, ensuring tangible results to avoid job insecurity and vowed to resist any attempt to misuse the privileges and resources of an office for personal vendettas.

Onwubiko emphasized the importance of addressing this alleged plot early on to prevent potential harm and a return to dark times in the country’s political history.

He cited the achievements of NDLEA under Marwa’s leadership, highlighting the seizure of over 6,668 tons of illicit drugs and the arrest of 36,096 drug traffickers from January 2021 to September 2023, as evidence of the agency’s effective performance.
