The centre is poised to significantly bolster the government’s CNG initiative, offering a path to lessen the burden of subsidy removal on petrol and contributing to reduced transportation costs.

Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, emphasised the importance of adopting eco-friendly energy sources like CNG.

By doing so, the transportation sector will undergo a profound transformation, aligning Nigeria with global environmental goals.

Alkali pointed out the serious health risks and environmental consequences associated with greenhouse gas emissions.

Nigeria, as a signatory to Green House Emission policies, is committed to curbing carbon emissions and embracing sustainable practices.

Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation/Marine and Blue Economy, urged Nigerians to view the shift towards CNG as a symbol of a new beginning, one that not only converts vehicles but also generates job opportunities.

The overarching goal is to create a sustainable future by harnessing the nation’s abundant and clean energy sources, ultimately driving economic growth.

Micheal Oluwagbemi, CEO of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative Steering Committee, hailed the adoption of CNG as a significant step towards diversifying the transportation sector, reducing its dependency on traditional fuels in favour of natural gas.

The CNG centre sets the stage for a more ecologically sustainable and economically prosperous future in Nigeria, offering a ray of hope for a cleaner, more affordable mode of transportation.

The Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative Steering Committee revealed that the country has witnessed the establishment of seven CNG conversion centres, with the Abuja Conversion Centre being the latest addition.

In the words of Micheal Oluwagbemi, “Today, as we officially open the Abuja Conversion Centre, we go beyond the inauguration of a facility; we extend a hand to a greener, more sustainable, and affordable future.

We are not just changing how we fuel our vehicles; we are changing lives, one job at a time.”
