The Berger Area Command of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), under the leadership of Area Commander Amos Yakubu, has instructed officers, personnel, and casual staff to embrace a culture of civility, respect, courtesy, and good conduct when interacting with the general public during operational duties and routine assignments.

This call was made during a lecture delivered by Comrade Salihu Dantata Mahmud, a resource person and consultant at DRTS. During the interactive lecture, Comrade Salihu highlighted the significant roles played by the Berger Command, from clearing illegal parking to addressing road obstructions and traffic control as defined in the Traffic Act of the Directorate.

The resource person stressed that courtesy and civility enhance smooth operations and help motorists feel comfortable when dealing with road traffic officers. In contrast, unprofessional and discourteous behavior by officers can lead to resentment among some motorists.

Even in the face of provocation, it is crucial to adhere to the rules of engagement since DRTS officers are expected to maintain a civil and norm-respecting demeanor.

Consider, for example, the various operational reforms with zero tolerance initiated by DRTS Director Dr. Abdul Lateef Bello. Engaging in personal or individual negotiations that may tarnish the directorate’s image is detrimental to its growth.

Salihu encouraged casual officers to uphold the directorate’s image during their operations, ensuring that their duties are carried out with decency, fairness, and a human touch.
