In a recent ruling that sent shockwaves through Minna, Niger State, a magistrates’ court handed down a 12-month prison sentence to Gambo Adamu.

Deceitfully orchestrating a marriage between his mother-in-law, Sa’adatu Aliyu, and former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sa’adatu Aliyu, a divorcee, took the brave step of approaching the court when she discovered that her son-in-law had swindled her out of a substantial sum of N5 million.

A promise to facilitate a marital connection with President Buhari.

She recounted how her son-in-law presented her with N100,000 as a bride price, a basket of kola nuts, and a bag of fried chicken, all supposedly gifts from President Buhari during the wedding fatiha.

Expecting the former president to come and claim her as his new wife, Sa’adatu grew increasingly anxious and decided to seek legal intervention.

But the deception didn’t end with this false marriage promise.

Gambo Adamu went a step further, persuading his unsuspecting mother-in-law to establish a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO).

He proposed that she serve as the chairperson while he assumed the role of the spokesman.

His enticing offer included promises of benefits from federal and state governments, along with reserved slots for Hajj pilgrimages.

Magistrate Ibrahim Musa Zago did not take this case lightly. Citing Section 322 of the Penal Code, he found the defendant guilty of cheating and sentenced him to a year in prison.

However, an alternative option was provided: the payment of a N100,000 fine.

Additionally, Gambo Adamu was ordered to compensate the plaintiff, Sa’adatu Aliyu, with a sum of N2 million for the emotional distress and financial losses she endured during this ordeal.
