In a significant turn of events, a group of House of Representatives members recently convened in Abuja, paving the way for potential actions against the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari.

This meeting has raised serious questions regarding the resurgence of petrol subsidies, particularly on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.

In this investigative report, we delve into the details of this critical development.

Sources well-versed in the meeting’s proceedings have disclosed that the lawmakers’ efforts to perfect Kyari’s removal stem from concerns about the clandestine reintroduction of subsidies on PMS.

This meeting, which saw the participation of 52 members of the House of Representatives, took place in the confines of a private residence located in Maitama, Abuja.

The agenda of the gathering extended beyond petrol subsidies, encompassing subjects like prolonged queues at filling stations and the state of the nation’s economy.

This assembly comprised diverse representatives, including pro-Nationalists like Chief Philip Agbese, Ikenga Ugochinyere, Peter Ankpanke, and others.

Their decision to explore this matter has prompted them to establish connections with civil society groups to gather more insights.

When we reached out to Chief Philip Agbese, who also serves as the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Publicity, he abstained from providing specific details about the meeting.

Nevertheless, he emphasized the importance of any discussion or meeting that aims to contribute to good governance, especially during times when Nigerians are grappling with considerable challenges.

The other members who were present at the meeting have also chosen to remain reserved in their comments, preferring to address the nation directly during House proceedings.

This, they believe, will allow Nigerians to hear their perspectives and intentions firsthand.
