Salihu Dantata Mahmud, a former private personal assistant to the late Alhaji Lateef Jakande, has called on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to assume control and dismiss individuals who are sabotaging his government due to discrepancies in appointments and the confirmation of appointed government officials.
As someone who previously authored a compelling article published in Newsday online and Blueprint newspapers titled “Tinubu and the Sustainability of Jakande’s Legacy,” I believe Tinubu should not allow himself to be influenced in the same way President Buhari was.
Firstly, Mariam Shetima’s nomination as Minister was initially announced but later rescinded before Senate confirmation.
This raises questions: why? Following this, the nomination and confirmation of Oyetola as the Transport Minister was initially changed to the Blue Marine portfolio.
More recently, the Chairman of FERMA was initially a twenty-five-year-old appointee, but this choice was later reversed.
These developments expose a lack of consistency in Tinubu’s administration. Additionally, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government recently announced the confirmation of the Acting Customs Boss, who is facing allegations of age reduction and has become a subject of controversy.
It raises concerns that the Senate confirmed the EFCC boss, yet it was the SGF who made the announcement. There is a pressing need for a retreat among top government functionaries to clarify what is appropriate, when, and how.
In any administration that prioritizes prudence and integrity, allegations concerning appointed service chiefs should be addressed promptly. I call on Mr. President to reconsider this confirmation and establish a panel to conduct a thorough investigation, providing Nigerians with the truth about the CG’s qualifications. Asiwaju Jagaban Borgu, please take charge.
