President Mahmoud Abbas has been at the helm since 2005, serving as the leader of the Fatah political party.

This is a notable political party with a longstanding and bitter rivalry against Hamas.

Hamas’s unexpected attack on Israel has had grave consequences, resulting in the loss of more than 1,400 Israeli lives.

In response, Israel has launched a series of bombings in Gaza, leading to a tragic toll of over 2,500 lives lost.

Tensions have escalated as Israeli troops gather near Gaza, hinting at an impending ground offensive aimed at Hamas militants.

The situation has prompted Israel to issue a directive for 1.1 million Palestinians residing in northern Gaza to relocate southwards.

Hundreds of thousands have heeded this call, instantly doubling the population of the southern city of Khan Younis, as reported by the BBC.

The conditions in Gaza have deteriorated significantly. Essential resources such as water, food, power, and medicines have become increasingly scarce.

The United Nations has sounded the alarm, warning that the Middle East is teetering on the brink of catastrophe.

In light of these dire circumstances, the UN has implored Israel to allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need.
