The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (FCT RUWASA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hip City Innovation Centre to improve access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene services in the territory.

Speaking at the event on Tuesday in Abuja, Executive Director, FCT RUWASSA, Dr Muhammad Dan-Hassan said, “Our main activities are in the communities, so I see the partnership as being very successful, very engaging, especially at the grassroots level.”

He said the status of the communities is as it affects water sanitation, hygiene and also economic empowerment of the communities, and that the document (MoU) would be used to source for support and funding from partners.

He said, “It will serve as a template for us to get to other communities within the FCT and hopefully, the neighboring states would come to FCT to look at the model.”

Also, the Chief Executive officer of the Hip City Innovation Centre, Bassey Bassey, expressed concern on issues related to water sanitation, hygiene, and economic empowerment of marginalized communities not typically within the public’s focus or attention.

He noted that the partnership signals the beginning of one of the many things they intend to achieve and it shows that the targets for wellbeing of all in FCT is achievable.

“Today’s partnership signifies the commencement of one of the many goals we aim to accomplish to demonstrate that the FCT can indeed serve as a model for other states.

“As you already know, we have set a target for 2025, which is just two years away. The task ahead is substantial, and it’s crucial that this partnership materializes,” Bassey said.
