In a political bombshell that has sent shockwaves through Kaduna’s political circles, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, the former Governor of Kaduna state, has officially severed ties with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
This unexpected move, marked by Yero’s personally signed resignation letter dated 29th September 2023, has left many wondering about the future of politics in Kaduna.
Yero’s resignation, which came into effect on 30th September 2023, was a closely guarded secret until the letter found its way to the ward Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Kaura ward, Kaura, Zaria Local Government, Kaduna State.
Despite the secrecy surrounding this decision, Yero’s letter offers no explicit reasons for his departure, leaving observers to speculate on the motives behind his exit.
The terse but significant letter simply states, “With gratitude to Almighty Allah, I write to extend my sincere greetings and to formally inform you of my decision to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective 30th September 2023.”
This departure marks the end of Yero’s association with the PDP, as he further emphasizes, “I hereby tender my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from 30th September 2023.”
Accompanying his resignation letter is Yero’s returned Party Membership card, symbolizing the finality of his decision.
The farewell is punctuated with his signature and titles, including “Dallatun Zazzau” and his former role as the Governor of Kaduna State.
Yero’s exit from the PDP introduces a significant element of uncertainty into Kaduna’s political landscape.
As a former governor and prominent figure within the party, his departure may trigger a chain reaction, leading to shifts in alliances and strategies.
Political analysts are already speculating about potential repercussions, including the formation of a new political bloc or Yero’s alignment with a different party.
