Flood Victims: NEMA Begins Distribution Of Relief IMaterials  to  22,000 Households in Jigawa

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has flagg-off the distribution of relief materials to over 22,000 flood victims in Jigawa state.

Speaking at the occasion held in Dutse capital, the Director-General (DG) of the agency, Mr Mustapha Ahmed, said, the benifioiaries were those affected by flood disaster in 2022.

He explained that, the items will be distributed under the agency’s 2023 Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI) aims at assisting the flood victims to improve their economy and source of livelihood .

The DG who was represented by the Director Human Resource Management of the agency,Alhaji Musa Zakari added that, the items to be distributed included livelihood equipment, food , non-food and farm inputs.

” The livelihood equipments included sewing and grinding machines, while the non-food items were mosquito nets, mats, blankets, buckets and mattresseas

According to him, the food items included rice (25kg, beans (10kg), sorghum (10kg), blankets, mats, mosquito nets, cooking pots, soaps and detergents.”

” The farm inputs included: maize and rice seeds, herbicides, pesticides, growth enhancers, liquid fertiliser, water pumps and sprayers.” DG revealed

In his remarks, the Jigawa state Governor Malam Umar Namadi of the state, commended the Federal Government for the intervention, described it as a timely considering the economic challenges in the state and country.

Goverror Namadi, who was represented by his Deputy, His Excellency Engr Aminu Usman, urged the beneficiaries to make best use of the materials.

During the 2022 flooding disaster over 150 people lost their lives, over 200,000 were displaced, hundred of hacters of farm lands, roads and public infrastructures were damaged in the state.
