Abubakar stated this on Tuesday during its first Zonal Scientific Workshop tagged: ” Our Nurses, Our Future” held in Kaduna.

According to him, Nurses are imminently qualified to hold any position in the government because they’re promoters of public health and advocate for policies geared towards the attainment of quality health care.

” Nurses are the critical engine of the health care system and the bedrock of any hospital in Nigeria, noting no hospital can flourish without a Nurse or a midwife.

He, however, urged state governments that are yet to implement the circular of upward review of hazard allowance of health workers by the federal government through the Federal Ministry of Health.

” Appointment of Nurses will address most of our healthcare systems and promote service delivery to patients.

The Keynote speaker, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, Registrar, /CEO of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria who spoke on the theme: ” Our Nurses, Our Future” said investing in the education of Nurses and midwives was not a necessity but an obligation by the government and critical stakeholders.

” Nursing is a profession that provides healthcare services promotion, illness prevention, and dying patients.

He commended the federal government for the implementation of the hazard allowances for Nigerian health workers.

” We are calling on all state governments to also follow federal government templates to augment the plight of health workers of various states.

The Kaduna State Chairman of the association, Comrd. Nurse Ishaku Yakubu said the scientific workshop is the first of its kind to avail the participants an opportunity to gain knowledge and improve their nursing service delivery to patients.

” This workshop also tends to strengthen our unity as professionals cut across the Northern States for the betterment of the Nursing profession.
