Aware that good governance promotes peace while bad governance generates high level of insecurity and crisis, the Taraba state governor Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has linked the restoration of peace in the state to the creation of more traditional institution (Chiefdom) in Taraba by his administration.

In an interview with journalists in Jalingo during commissioning of the 22km dual carriageway, the governor stated that after creating more chiefdoms, the local chiefs underwent a security summit on how to help them tackle insecurity.

According to him, the local chiefs he created often reported any suspicious security challenges that may escalate for the swift response by the security men. “The creation of more traditional institutions in the state has gone a long way to help us restore lasting peace in Taraba. We organize training and courses for the chiefs for awareness and to report any movement of people with bad character.

“We were able to track criminals and their movements. There are other things we’ve done to restore peace, but this has been the focal point”.

Our Correspondent also observed that creating of these chiefdoms which have no doubt ignited peace to the communities are Sarkin Kudu and Dampar in Ibi local government , Kamkam, Mbamnga, Kabri Chiefdom, Kuma, Nguroje, Ndumyaji, in Sardauna local government council, Zing , Takum and Ussa local government councils were as well not left out as Munkin, Bete, Chanchanji ,Lissam and Kpambo were also fretted with chiefdoms.

Even though, no fewer than twenty persons have been reported killed following a clash between two ethnic groups over kingship created by the governor recently in Karim Lamido LGA, Governor Ishaku had said that the essence of creating the chiefdom was to bring government closer to the people, and to give the masses a sense of belonging.
