THE Grassroots Mobilization for Asiwaju (GMA) has said that opposition to the adoption of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President and Hon Abbas Tajudeen as Speaker of the House of Representatives should be shelved for national interest.
National President of the group, Comrade Aminu Aminu, at a media briefing in Abuja, also assured Nigerians of a peaceful and successful transition of power on the 29th May, 2023.
He said that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would ensure that the duo of Akpabio and Abbas emerged despite opposition to their adoption as this is in the interest of democratic development.
“There is no need to doubt the capacity of Asiwaju Tinubu to ensure the will of the party is supreme and that the party’s anointed candidates for the positions in person of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President and Hon Abbas Tajudeen as Speaker of the House of Representatives will emerge at the end of the day. He (Tinubu) has started working with even the opposition lawmakers to ensure this becomes a done deal,” Aminu said.
He said that the organisation under his leadership stands with the position of the APC and that of Asiwaju Tinubu for Senator Akpabio from Akwa Ibom for Senate President and Hon. Abbas from Kaduna for Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 10th Assembly is what they stand for going by their leadership prowess and political weight.
“The APC’s position and that of the president-elect on Speakership of the House of Representatives and that of the Senate Presidency of the 10th Assembly is well thought out and we at Grassroot Mobilization for Asiwaju stand by them.
“Our endorsement of the above-mentioned gentlemen was born out of critical thinking and assessment of their track records and performance in the national polity. Senator Akpabio and Hon Tajudeen can best be described as stabilizers of our democracy and true bridge builders across our national differences,” he said.
