Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti has broken his silence after the Inspector General of Police (IGP) ordered his arrest for assaulting a police officer.
Kuti was seen in a viral video slapping a policeman in uniform.
The IGP, in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Saturday, ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, to arrest Kuti.
“The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.
“IGP Usman Alkali Baba assures Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book,” he said.
Reacting to this on his Instagram Story, Kuti said the policeman tried to kill him and his family and that he had apologised.
He said he had agreed not to press charges against him because he apologised, saying he had proof to show for his action.
Kuti said he welcomed investigation into the matter by the police and that he would give his full cooperation.
“He tried to kill me and my family. I have the proof but I no dey chase clout. He apologised and I have agreed not to press charges. Make una mind una business make the poor guy no go lose him job.
“I welcome the investigation and will give my full cooperation. I also pray to the IG that whoever is wrong should be indicted,” he said.
