Worried by the high rate of poverty in the state, the Jigawa state governor elect Malam Umar Namadi has declared war against poverty as one of his top priority when assumed office May 29th.

The governor elect stated this while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after receiving report from some of the subcommittee of the state government transition committee.

He explained that,the incumbent government has spend billions of Naira on empowerment,jobs creations and other tools for poverty eradication which reduce the prevailing rate of poverty in the state.

Malam Namadii added that as a result of series of intervention from federal state government and other partners, the level of poverty in the state has reduced and the purchasing power of people was improved.

The governor elect also disputed the the reports from National Data Health Survey ( NDHS) which categorized Jigawa among the top poverty striking state in Nigeria, described it as per from the reality.

” We aknowledged that, our state still have poverty challenge, and in viewe of that, I made war against it as one of my 12 point agenda, I will continue from where my predecessor stop, I will use all the available resources to tackle the challenge and made life better for our people”

” When we build the purchasing power of our people, create more enabling environment for investors, this will translate into demands for more production which will lead to growth and sustainable economic development ” Namadi stated.

He however revealed that, most of the sub committees have already submitted their report to main state power transition committee and the whole process are very smooth.

The Governor elect who is also the incumbent state deputy governor reiterated his commitment to continue with all good policies and programs started by led Goverror Badaru administration for continuity, social and economic development of the state.
