A former member of the House of Representatives, Abba Haruna Ibrahim, has declared support for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2027 presidential election, citing insecurity, economic hardship and what he described as the Federal Government’s failure to address educational challenges.
Ibrahim made his position known while responding to questions from an Elenzanews correspondent in Kaduna State on Monday.
He said citizens had a responsibility to speak out against government policies and actions they considered detrimental to the country.
“As citizens, it is right to tell the present administration the truth and that is what Atiku Abubakar is doing. Those who are happy with the current insecurity are in support of this bad situation,” he said.
The former lawmaker added that Atiku, whom he described as a good ambassador of Nigeria, had a responsibility to tell President Bola Tinubu the truth.
Ibrahim criticised the administration’s handling of insecurity, education and the Almajiri system, arguing that the challenges had continued to affect the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
“People are dying, bad economy, hungry everywhere, this must stop,” he said.
He also expressed concern over the rising difficulty of accessing education, particularly for families struggling to meet the financial demands of sending their children to school.
“Education has become difficult. Financially, it is hard for people to go to school, even close by. Nothing has changed in the Almajiri system, it’s still the same, the government only uses it as part of its politics,” he lamented.
The former representative called on Nigerians to support Atiku in the 2027 election, particularly farmers whose agricultural activities he said had been disrupted by insecurity.
He described the former vice-president as an experienced political leader, citing his previous service in the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Ibrahim, who is also an aspirant for the deputy governorship position reportedly zoned to his constituency, said he would respect the party’s zoning arrangement.
However, he did not identify the political party whose zoning arrangement he referred to or provide further details about his deputy governorship ambition.
His declaration comes ahead of the 2027 general election, as political figures begin to state their positions and alignments.
The allegations against the Tinubu administration and Ibrahim’s assessment of Atiku’s leadership were his own views. He did not provide supporting data for his claims about insecurity, the economy or the Almajiri system.
Newsroom note: The source material does not specify Ibrahim’s political party, the constituency involved in the deputy governorship zoning arrangement or the state in which he hopes to contest. These details should be confirmed before publication. The reference to his background as a politician from Borno State should also be clarified against his current political ambition in Kaduna State.
