Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has approved an increase in the remuneration of traditional rulers across the state, covering Emirs, Chiefs, district heads and village heads, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Kaduna State chapter, has said.
The association disclosed this in a statement by its chairman, Sheikh Jamilu Abubakar Albani, describing the approval as a major boost to the traditional institution and its role in peace-building, security and grassroots development across the state’s 23 local government areas.
ALGON said the improved remuneration would strengthen the capacity of traditional rulers to support intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, peaceful coexistence and community mobilisation.
The association described traditional rulers as indispensable partners in governance and a crucial link between government and the people.
It said improved welfare for the traditional institution would help address security challenges and deepen peace and harmony across Kaduna State.
ALGON also commended Sani for reinforcing the relevance of traditional institutions as key partners in his administration’s peace-building and development agenda.
The association said the governor’s gesture demonstrated recognition of the role traditional rulers play in maintaining stability at the grassroots.
According to ALGON, traditional rulers remain strategically positioned to provide useful information to security agencies because of their closeness to communities.
The association, on behalf of the 23 local government councils, pledged continued collaboration with the state government and other stakeholders to consolidate peace, security, good governance and sustainable grassroots development.
It, however, urged traditional rulers to reciprocate the gesture by deepening cooperation with local government councils and relevant government agencies.
ALGON said such collaboration was necessary to promote peaceful coexistence, strengthen security and accelerate development across the state.
The association expressed confidence that the improved welfare package would further strengthen the traditional institution’s contribution to Kaduna’s development and security architecture.
