The Danji SS Media Team has condemned Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, over his recent assertion that the state is “not contesting election with any party,” describing the comment as undemocratic and antithetical to electoral competition.

Governor Kefas made the remark while receiving the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, at the Government House in Jalingo.

In a statement issued Saturday, the media team, led by Hon Emma Umaru, argued that elections in a democracy are determined by the electorate, not by pronouncements from political office holders, and warned that the governor’s words could be construed as suggesting the 2027 outcome had been preordained.

“Elections are not won by declaration from Government House. They are won through the free will of the people expressed through their votes,” the statement read.

The group also flagged what it called a contradiction between the governor’s comments and recent administration activities, including the payment of salary and allowance arrears, as well as alleged political mobilisation efforts.

It further challenged the government’s performance, claiming that transformative projects remained scarce given the resources available to the state. The team specifically noted that during the APC National Chairman’s visit, the only major commissioning appeared to be the renovation of an APC office, rather than a significant public infrastructure project.

The group insisted that the 2027 governorship election should be decided on governance, competence, accountability and policy ideas, not political dominance or intimidation.

“Nobody owns the people. No governor owns the state. The power belongs to the people, and the people will have the final say,” the statement added, urging Tarabans to uphold their constitutional right to freely choose their leaders.
