The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismissed two operatives from its Mining Marshal Unit for unlawfully supplying firearms to illegal miners, while clearing the unit’s commander of alleged financial misconduct.
Commandant General Ahmed Audi announced the dismissals on Wednesday in Abuja, stating that the two personnel contravened established guidelines governing the corps’ operations.
Represented by spokesperson Babawale Afolabi, the NSCDC chief said the officers’ actions constituted grave misconduct, professional negligence, and conduct prejudicial to the discipline and operational integrity of the corps.
“Consequently, both personnel have been dismissed from the service and recommended for prosecution in accordance with the law,” he said.
Commander Exonerated
The dismissal followed the operational incident of February 18, 2026, in Nasarawa State, which resulted in the death of Location Commander Levi Agada.
The tragic incident had generated controversial media publications regarding the operations of the Mining Marshal Unit, which is headed by Commander John Onoja. Allegations had surfaced linking Mr Onoja’s team to the diversion of N2 billion and an alleged cover-up surrounding Mr Agada’s death.
However, comprehensive investigations have cleared Mr Onoja, the lead prosecutor, and other management team members of any complicity.
“Allegations suggesting otherwise were found to be false and without factual basis,” Mr Audi stated.
No Evidence of Premeditation
The NSCDC boss further noted that investigators found no evidence of premeditated intent against the deceased personnel.
The two dismissed mining marshals are among 37 personnel recently removed from the corps, while 42 others received various sanctions for different offences.
The corps reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline and operational integrity across all its units.
