Residents of Nyaja-Danvo community in Yorro Local Government Area, Taraba State, have received a major boost in education and water supply following the commissioning of a three-classroom block, 90 desks, and a hand-pump borehole.

The project, executed under ActionAid Nigeria’s Local Rights Programme and implemented by the Women and Children Health Empowerment Foundation (WACHEF) with support from the Community Sponsorship initiative, aims to improve living standards in the underserved rural settlement.

Speaking on behalf of ActionAid Nigeria’s Country Director, Mr Andrew Mamedu, the Local Rights Programme Specialist, Mr Kehinde Arowosegbe, described the intervention as a testament to the power of partnership and community participation. He noted that education and clean water are fundamental rights and critical tools for breaking the cycle of poverty.

“These facilities will provide children with a conducive learning environment while improving the health and wellbeing of residents,” Arowosegbe said, adding that the initiative supports community-led development by strengthening local institutions, promoting accountable governance, and improving access to basic services.

Taraba State Commissioner for Nursery and Primary Education, Hajiya Tee Fatima Habeeb, commended the organisations for complementing government efforts, describing the project as timely for boosting enrolment and retention.

Founder of WACHEF, Dr Garba Danjuma, said the facilities represent investments in the future. “Every child deserves a safe environment to learn, and every family deserves clean water. This project creates opportunities and gives hope,” he stated.

WACHEF Board Member, Alhaji Uba Mohammed Lau, praised the collaboration as a model for sustainable grassroots development. Community members expressed gratitude, noting that the new infrastructure would reduce classroom overcrowding and provide reliable drinking water closer to home.

The Managing Director of West Army Construction Company and the Permanent Secretary of Taraba State Ministry of Works and Housing also lauded the initiative, stressing the value of strategic partnerships in addressing rural infrastructure deficits.
