The House of Representatives on Tuesday adopted 26 reports on public petitions alleging unlawful dismissal, breaches of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), and other grievances.
The adoption followed the presentation of the reports by the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions, Rep. Laori Kwamoti (PDP-Adamawa), during plenary in Abuja. Mr Kwamoti said the petitions had been referred to the committee for investigation and recommendations.
Among the adopted reports was a petition by 530 disengaged staff of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA), who alleged the refusal to implement approved full and miscellaneous benefits, non-payment of 15 years’ pension arrears, and failure to enrol eligible members into the defined pension scheme.
Other adopted reports included:
· A petition by Mrs Nwosu Chinonyerem against the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) over alleged unlawful dismissal.
· A petition by L/CPL Ordu Odiereke against the Nigerian Army for alleged wrongful dismissal.
· A petition by Lady Grace Ayoo against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over alleged career stagnation.
· A petition by Funmi Adeogun & Co., on behalf of Olatone Abdulsalam Ventures Limited, against the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and seven others over alleged illegal eviction and property destruction.
· A petition by Kennedy C. Amos and Associates against Airtel Networks Limited concerning an alleged fraudulent land transaction involving Mrs Juliana Nwikanne of Bianu Town, Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State.
· A petition by Sure-Path Solicitors against DSP Uche Okeke and Inspector Romanus Ugwuanyi over the alleged torture and murder of Mr Kingsley Agwuna, known as Temple, who died on 8 September 2024.
· A petition by Inspector Danladi Kwalpung against the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) for alleged non-compliance with a court order reinstating him to service.
· A petition by Wisdom and Grace on behalf of Mr Anthony Onyeabor against Aso Savings and Loans PLC over the alleged illegal and fraudulent concession of a property in Abuja to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
· A petition by Human Rights Radio and Television (Brekete Family), on behalf of eight senior staff of Biwater Nigeria Limited, over alleged failure to pay pensions and redundancy allowances.
· A petition by the Nsisan-Obari Royal Palace and Alesa Council of Chiefs against Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited for alleged violation of the PIA 2022.
· A petition by City-Point Global Properties and Investment Limited against the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria over the alleged non-release of a ₦479.2 million loan for a housing development in Abia State.
· A petition by Advanced Coating Technology Limited against Precise Construction and Engineering Projects Limited seeking outstanding payment for services on an oil project in Akwa Ibom State.
· A petition by Mr Bolaji Yunus, CEO of Bolaful Solution Ventures, against Access Bank PLC over alleged failure to treat him after a bank signage fell on him while on official duty.
Presiding over the session, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu ruled that the House, through its Committee on Compliance, would ensure the implementation of all adopted recommendations.
