Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has secured a commanding victory in the Sokoto State presidential primaries of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), polling 68,823 votes to defeat his closest rivals.
Announcing the results at the party’s state secretariat, Professor Aliyu Abubakar, chairman of the ADC presidential primary election committee, described the exercise as peaceful and inclusive.
According to the official tally, total votes cast stood at 69,431. Rotimi Amaechi garnered 292 votes, while Muhammad Hayatudeen polled 319 votes.
“By the power vested in me as chairman of the state presidential election committee, I, Professor Aliyu Abubakar, hereby declare Atiku Abubakar the winner of the Sokoto State ADC presidential primary election,” he said.
Notable party figures present at the declaration included the state party leader, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; the party’s governorship candidate, Manir Dan’Iya; senatorial candidates Faruk Malami Yabo and Mani Maichinko; and the state party chairman, Hon. Maigwandu, among others.
