An aspirant for the House of Representatives seat for Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency under the African Democratic Congress, Samaila Leeman, has disclosed that two politicians have stepped down from the race to support his ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Leeman made this known in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday evening, where he formally declared his intention to contest for the federal constituency seat.
According to him, the decision followed widespread calls from constituents and political stakeholders urging him to join the race after his defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He said, “I wish to inform you formally that I have answered the call to contest for the seat of the Member, House of Reps, Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency under the African Democratic Congress, ADC.”
The politician explained that several campaign e-flyers bearing his photographs had circulated across social media platforms in recent weeks, with conflicting claims about the office he intended to contest.
Leeman, however, clarified that he neither authorised the materials nor publicly declared for any office before now.
“While I have not hindered anyone from expressing his or her opinion on me, I wish to assure you that I have never ordered it nor declared to anyone that I was into any race,” he stated.
He added that consultations with friends and supporters, alongside prayers and encouragement from notable personalities within the constituency, eventually influenced his decision to contest.
“Since my defection from the ruling APC, many notable individuals have called or visited me to encourage me to contest election in the 2027 general election cycle,” he said.
Leeman further revealed that two prominent politicians had withdrawn their ambitions for the same position in order to support his aspiration, describing the gesture as a sign of growing unity and confidence in his candidacy.
The ADC aspirant assured stakeholders in the constituency of his respect for their opinions and promised to engage them personally in the course of his consultations.
He also appealed for prayers and support from residents as he embarks on what he described as a collective political journey.
