As the 2027 general elections draw nearer, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a firm warning to its members against any form of partisan political involvement.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brig.-Gen. Olakunle Nafiu, delivered the admonition on Wednesday while addressing 2026 Batch A, Stream II corps members at the temporary orientation camp in Gusau, Zamfara State.

“The 2027 general elections are fast approaching, and you will be engaged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as ad hoc staff. You must serve as good ambassadors of the NYSC and Nigeria while carrying out your electoral duties,” he said.

He specifically warned against the misuse of social media for political discourse, reminding corps members that their primary responsibility is to promote national unity and cohesion.

The Director-General also urged them to remain law-abiding and focused on contributing to national development. He encouraged corps members to apply the lessons of peaceful coexistence, national unity, and development acquired during the three-week orientation course throughout their service year and beyond.

Brig.-Gen. Nafiu reassured the corps members of the Federal Government’s commitment to prioritising their welfare and security. He also emphasised the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a practical platform for empowerment.

“Make the best use of the opportunities in SAED. Learn to develop multiple income sources, avoid unnecessary spending, and establish businesses so that you do not rely solely on government jobs after service,” he advised.

He further called on corps members to respect the customs of their host communities. “Be kind to the people of Zamfara and respect their traditions,” he said.

Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Zamfara, Muhammad Lawan, disclosed that over 500 corps members had registered for the 2026 Batch A, Stream II orientation course. He described them as high-spirited, well-behaved, and fully compliant with camp regulations.

Mr Lawan also praised the synergy with security agencies and other stakeholders, and announced that the Zamfara State Government had approved the establishment of a permanent NYSC orientation camp in Gusau, the state capital.
