Arsenal have secured a place in the UEFA Champions League final for the first time in two decades, narrowly overcoming Atlético Madrid in a tense semi-final second leg at the Emirates Stadium.

Bukayo Saka’s first-half strike settled the contest, sealing a 1-0 win on the night and a 2-1 aggregate victory after the opening leg finished 1-1.

The result marks a historic return to Europe’s premier club fixture for the North London side, whose only previous final appearance came in 2006 – a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in Paris.

Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal have completed a remarkable transformation, blending youthful energy with seasoned composure to compete among the continent’s elite.

The decisive moment arrived late in the first half, with Saka reacting quickest inside the box to fire home from close range, sparking jubilant scenes among the home faithful.

Thereafter, Arsenal produced a disciplined defensive display. Goalkeeper David Raya and his backline stood firm against sustained pressure from Diego Simeone’s resilient Atlético, who pushed relentlessly for an equaliser but found no way through.

For Arsenal supporters, this victory signals more than mere progression – it heralds the club’s resurgence on the European stage after years of rebuilding.

The Gunners will now await the winner of the other semi-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, as they aim to secure their first-ever Champions League title and crown a remarkable continental campaign.
