The Executive Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), Chief Saviour Enyiekere, has described legislative workers as the engine room of Nigeria’s democracy, praising their dedication to the nation’s democratic development.
In a statement released on Friday by the Director of Public Affairs, E.N. Anyigor, to mark May Day, Dr Enyiekere said: “Your mandate is the sinew and spine upon which the strength and stability of our National Legislature depends.”
He commended the resilience and invaluable contributions of legislative staff, who provide critical support services that ensure the effective functioning of the National Assembly. According to him, the role of workers in the legislature remains indispensable, as their professionalism and hard work sustain one of the country’s most important democratic institutions.
The NASC Chairman assured staff that the Commission remains committed to improving their welfare, enhancing career development opportunities, and creating a more conducive working environment. He noted that the Commission is already implementing reforms and policies to positively impact staff wellbeing, productivity, and morale.
Dr Enyiekere urged workers to remain steadfast, diligent, and committed to excellence, assuring them that their sacrifices and contributions would continue to be recognised and rewarded. He reaffirmed the Commission’s determination to work closely with all relevant stakeholders to secure a brighter future for legislative workers across the nation.
“Your dedication to duty is highly appreciated. The Commission is committed to ensuring improved welfare and a brighter future for all staff,” he said.
This year’s May Day message marked Dr Enyiekere’s first to legislative workers since the sixth National Assembly Service Commission was inaugurated on 5 May 2025. (NAN)
