The Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 52 suspects following the launch of ‘Operation Sharar Mafaka’ – a Hausa phrase meaning “Clearing Hideouts” or “Sweeping Safe Havens”.

In a statement released on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, the operation targeted more than 20 known drug distribution hubs across the metropolis.

State Commander Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal said the initiative aims to dismantle criminal joints and restore safety to affected communities. “We will continue to dislodge these hideouts, arrest suspects, and seize exhibits until normalcy returns,” he said.

The operation began on April 27, with raids at Filin Idi, Tashar Rami, Fagge, Abattoir, and Farm Centre, leading to the arrest of 15 suspects and the recovery of illicit drugs and paraphernalia.

A second wave on April 28 targeted Hotoro Flyover, Mariri Park, Ramin Jirga Tishama, Yankaba Park, and Audu Bako Secretariat. Authorities arrested 16 suspects, including three women, and seized assorted narcotics alongside locally made weapons.

Later that day, further action at Kwanar Ungogo, Titin Jajira, Tudun Bojuwa, and parts of Sabon Gari resulted in 21 additional arrests, among them one female suspect.

Commander Yahaya-Lawal reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained enforcement, community engagement, and stakeholder collaboration, in line with NDLEA Chairman, retired Brigadier General Mohammed Buba-Marwa’s directive for a drug-free society.
