The Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners has praised Governor Uba Sani as a true ambassador of the Renewed Hope Agenda following his approval of N4.289 billion for the settlement of gratuities, death benefits, and accrued rights.

In a formal letter of appreciation signed by the union’s state chairman, Aboman Ladan, and secretary, Alhassan Balarabe Musa, the pensioners said the governor’s action “has not only put smiles on the faces of pensioners but has gone a step further in renewing their hope on all other pending entitlements.”

The approval, announced last week, applies to retired civil servants and the families of deceased workers across state and local government services. It benefits 1,637 individuals under both the Contributory Pension Scheme (accrued rights) and the Defined Benefit Scheme (gratuities and death benefits).

Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, N3.915 billion will be distributed to 1,392 pensioners, while 245 beneficiaries will receive a total of N374 million.

The union noted: “The timely intervention has brought great relief and renewed hope to many of our members who have waited patiently for years. For numerous bereaved families, Your Excellency’s gesture has erased their burden and restored their faith in government. You are truly an ambassador of the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

However, the letter, dated 16 April 2026 and bearing reference number NUP/KDS/HQ/VOL 2/25, also reminded the governor of outstanding liabilities, noting that some pensioners—particularly the elderly—have yet to receive their entitlements. The union expressed confidence in Mr Sani’s ability to clear all pension debts, citing his goodwill and track record.

Since assuming office, the governor has now paid a cumulative N17.796 billion, benefiting approximately 8,344 retirees and families of deceased workers.
