Governor Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Bishop Matthew Kukah as the new Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement on Wednesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime.
Bishop Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, is a renowned cleric and intellectual celebrated for his scholarly contributions and advocacy for social justice. He holds a Bachelor of Divinity from the Pontifical Urban University, a Master’s in Peace Studies from the University of Bradford, and a PhD from SOAS University of London (1990). He has also undertaken studies at the Universities of Oxford and Harvard.
A prolific author, Bishop Kukah founded the Kukah Centre, where he champions research-driven advocacy for interfaith harmony and policy reform.
According to the official statement, his new role is expected to strengthen the university’s global partnerships, promote ethical leadership, and enhance its mission to produce well-rounded graduates.
