The Kaduna State High Court has adjourned the bail hearing of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai until the first week of June 2026.

Justice Darius Khobo moved the date following proceedings in the ongoing case, in which the former governor faces multiple charges bordering on alleged financial crimes and abuse of office. The suit was filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

El-Rufai appeared in court on Tuesday, arriving around 9 a.m. in a convoy accompanied by operatives of the ICPC and the Department of State Services. Security agencies restricted movement within the court premises, as supporters of the former governor gathered outside.

Speaking after the session, counsel to the former governor, Ukpon Akpan, faulted the repeated adjournment of the bail hearing, describing it as “politically motivated.”

The adjournment follows earlier claims by El-Rufai of what he termed a “fresh plot” to implicate him in criminal activities and frustrate his release on bail. He warned of “malicious orchestrations” aimed at ensuring his continued detention.

He also recalled an incident on 12 February 2026, when he alleged there were plans to arrest him upon his arrival at Abuja Airport from Cairo, describing the episode as “the beginning of a troubling pattern.”

The court had previously fixed 21 April to rule on the bail application after hearing arguments from counsel, before the latest adjournment to June.
