Brazilian prodigy Endrick scored one goal and created another as Lyon secured a surprise 2-1 victory away to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, seriously damaging the reigning European champions’ latest Ligue 1 title bid.

PSG, who rested several key players following their midweek Champions League triumph at Liverpool, were caught cold when Endrick’s near-post effort beat home goalkeeper Matvey Safonov to give Lyon an early lead. The goal marked the 18-year-old’s seventh for Lyon since arriving on loan from Real Madrid in January, as he bids to secure a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad.

The teenager then turned provider just 18 minutes in, releasing the outstanding Afonso Moreira on the counterattack to double the visitors’ lead.

Paris Saint-Germain had a golden chance to pull one back before half-time after Ainsley Maitland-Niles fouled Lucas Hernandez inside the box. However, Gonçalo Ramos saw his penalty saved.

Ousmane Dembélé, introduced as a second-half substitute, struck the crossbar from long range before fellow replacement Khvicha Kvaratskhelia netted a stunning stoppage-time consolation, bending the ball in off the post.

It proved too little, too late for Luis Enrique’s side, who slipped to their fifth Ligue 1 defeat of the season. Their lead at the top now stands at just one point over Lens, though PSG hold a game in hand. They can restore a four-point cushion by beating Nantes at home in a rearranged midweek fixture.

Lyon, meanwhile, climbed to third as they push for Champions League qualification. However, the four sides directly below them – Lille, Rennes, Marseille, and Monaco – all lie within four points, with just four matches remaining.
