The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has called on Nigerians and members of the Armed Forces to embrace sacrifice, unity, and renewed hope as Christians celebrate Easter.
Mr Oluyede made the call in his 2026 Easter goodwill message, noting that the season symbolises courage, selflessness, and the triumph of good over evil, values central to the military profession.
He said the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ exemplify true leadership founded on sacrifice and commitment to a greater cause.
The CDS commended officers and men of the Armed Forces for their gallantry and unwavering dedication in defending the nation’s sovereignty and protecting citizens.
He paid tribute to fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, assuring that their bravery and patriotism would never be forgotten.
Mr Oluyede also honoured wounded personnel and troops currently deployed across various theatres of operation, describing their resilience as a source of national inspiration.
He urged military personnel to remain united, vigilant, and professional, stressing that synergy with other security agencies and cooperation with communities remain key to tackling security challenges.
The defence chief further appreciated families of service members, especially those with loved ones on deployment, for their patience and support, noting their role in boosting troop morale.
He called on Nigerians to take ownership of the fight against insecurity through a whole-of-society approach.
According to him, collective resolve and cooperation are essential to achieving lasting peace and stability in the country.
Mr Oluyede expressed optimism that, with courage, faith, and unity, the Armed Forces would continue to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
He wished all personnel, their families, and Nigerians a peaceful and blessed Easter celebration.
