Governors Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, alongside elder statesman, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd), on Thursday met with the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), in Abuja over renewed insurgent activities and emerging security breaches in parts of Adamawa and neighbouring communities in Taraba State.
The high-level security meeting, held at the Federal Ministry of Defence headquarters, focused on strengthening federal–state collaboration to address asymmetric threats and restore stability in the affected areas.
Top on the agenda were measures to recalibrate ongoing counter-insurgency operations, reinforce forward deployment of troops, enhance inter-agency intelligence coordination, and fast-track the mobilisation of additional military assets to flashpoint communities.
The meeting also reviewed operational gaps and community-based security concerns requiring immediate federal intervention.
Governor Kefas reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that sustained synergy between sub-national governments and federal defence authorities remains critical to dismantling criminal networks and consolidating peace.
Governor Fintiri emphasised the need to sustain operational momentum and adopt proactive strategies to neutralise emerging threats before they escalate into wider instability.
The engagement signalled a unified political and security front among critical stakeholders and underscored intensified collaborative efforts to restore public confidence and stabilise affected communities across Adamawa and Taraba states.
Also present at the meeting were representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff and his operational team, members of the Africa Nature Investors (ANI) team, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Re-Orientation, Taraba State, Barrister Zainab Usman Jalingo.
