The Ohanaeze Youth Council, the preeminent sociocultural organisation representing the Igbo people globally, has issued a stark warning to the National Assembly regarding the urgent need for legislation mandating real-time transmission of election results. This crucial bill is seen as a bulwark against potential electoral malfeasance, and its absence could spell disaster for Nigeria’s democratic integrity.

Consensus candidacy may weaken APC democracy in Abia – Alozie

Comrade Igboayaka O Igboayaka, the national president of the Ohanaeze Youth Council, urged the 10th Senate, led by Senator Godswill Akpabio, to heed the voices of the populace. “The Mandatory Real-time Transmission of Election Results bill is non-negotiable; any attempt to undermine it invites chaos,” he stated emphatically.

Igboayaka emphasised that the upcoming 2027 general elections represent a pivotal moment—what he terms a “Ballot Revolution.” This event aims to retire political oppressors and mediocrity, particularly in Igboland, despite attempts to manipulate electoral laws.

The Spirit of Unrest

Igbo youths have vowed to express their discontent in ways that challenge the status quo. “We will dance naked and mad at polling and collation centres,” Igboayaka declared, illustrating the passionate resolve of the youth to safeguard their electoral rights. He asserted that any failure to implement the mandatory real-time transmission of election results would lead to widespread unrest.

“Our patience has limits,” he warned. The youth will not allow the electoral process to be undermined by unscrupulous politicians. “The decisions of Nigerians in 2027 must be honoured at all levels of the electoral framework,” he affirmed.

A Grievance Rooted in Marginalisation

The council’s concerns are underscored by a history of marginalisation affecting the Igbo community. Igboayaka noted that the failure of past and present political leaders to deliver meaningful socio-political development has led to widespread discontent. This marginalisation has fuelled the rise of various pro-Biafran groups, such as IPOB and MASSOB, who seek to challenge the status quo.

Igboayaka urged Igbo youths to redirect their frustrations towards their own political leaders, rather than the federal government. “It is these local leaders who have hindered our economic progress,” he asserted.

A Revolutionary Commitment

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections, the Ohanaeze Youth Council has launched a mission to eradicate electoral corruption and violence in Igboland. “We will go to extraordinary lengths to oppose those who undermine democracy,” Igboayaka declared. The council promises to stand firm against political saboteurs, declaring that any youth engaged in electoral malfeasance will face severe consequences.

Igboayaka’s rallying cry is clear: “The most potent weapon against political oppression is an organised populace. We must equip ourselves with our PVCs (Permanent Voter Cards) to retire corrupt politicians.”

A Call for Unity

In this transformative moment, Igboayaka invites all freedom-loving individuals and progressive Igbo youths to join the movement for change. “It’s time to reintegrate into society and spearhead a democratic ballot revolution,” he urged. The upcoming elections are not merely a political event; they represent an opportunity for the Igbo community to reclaim their narrative.

Conclusion: The Path Forward

As the 2027 elections draw near, the Ohanaeze Youth Council remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring that the voices of the Igbo people are heard and respected. With the promise of a “Ballot Revolution” looming on the horizon, the call for mandatory real-time transmission of election results serves as a critical step towards ensuring electoral integrity in Nigeria.
