One 45-year-old Usman Ayuba was on Tuesday, arraigned in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly receiving stolen cartons of cigarettes worth N300 million.

Ayuba, whose address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy and receiving stolen items, to which he pleaded not guilty.

 

The prosecutor, Insp Femi Oluwadare told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 7, 2022, at about 2.15 a.m, at Sabo area, Ibadan.

 

Oluwadare said the defendant received the stolen 1,100 cartons of Rothmans cigarettes from three men: Franklin Mukoro, Alexander Mbachu and Kareem Hammed.

 

He said the defendant knew well that the cigarettes were stolen from the British American Tobacco Company, Ibadan.

 

He said the offences contravened Sections 516 and 427 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

 

The Magistrate, Mr Maruff Mudashiru, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5 million with two sureties in like sum.

 

He adjourned the case until Aug. 20 for hearing. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
