The debate over zoning of National Assembly seats in Taraba Central Senatorial District is intensifying, as stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) push for fairness, justice, and equitable representation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Party leaders and members from Bali Local Government Area have urged the APC to adopt a balanced approach in allocating tickets for both the Senate and House of Representatives seats, warning that concentrating the positions in a single local government could weaken inclusiveness and party unity.

Speaking to journalists, the group’s spokesperson, Mallam Tanko Dauda, raised concerns over what he described as the marginalisation of Bali, calling for a redistribution of political opportunities within the Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency.

He proposed that the House of Representatives seat be zoned to Bali Local Government Area, while Gassol retains the Senate position, in line with what he described as long-standing political practice in the zone.

Dauda noted that the current arrangement, where both the senator representing Taraba Central and the House of Representatives member for Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency are from Gassol, contradicts the principle of balance observed since 1999.

“Maintaining equity in the distribution of elective positions is essential for unity, fairness, and a sense of belonging among all groups in the constituency,” he said.

He added that adopting an equitable zoning formula would not only address concerns of marginalisation but also strengthen the APC’s chances in future elections by fostering wider support.

The group also identified former House of Representatives member, Hon. Garba Garba Chede, as a strong contender, citing his experience and broad acceptance across both Bali and Gassol local government areas.
