The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has declared its readiness to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, unveiling plans for an inclusive, people-driven campaign aimed at capturing power from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

As the official campaign season commences on Wednesday, August 19, the party expressed confidence in its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, whom it described as possessing the governance credentials and blueprint necessary to rescue Nigeria from what it termed the “current misrule” of the APC.

APM National Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Abubakar, told journalists in Abuja on Tuesday that the party had established a “very strong and highly efficient campaign machinery,” which would be unveiled to the public shortly.

Abubakar revealed that the APM had engaged in extensive nationwide consultations and forged formidable alliances with other opposition parties, all aimed at consolidating opposition forces behind its platform and candidate to challenge the ruling party in the January 2027 poll.

Commitment to Protecting Votes

Insisting on the party’s victory, Abubakar affirmed that the APM would operate strictly within the ambit of the law while taking all necessary measures to ensure that its winning votes were protected.

“Tomorrow marks the official commencement of campaigns, and as a party, I can assure you that we are ready for the task ahead,” Abubakar stated. “We have a very popular presidential candidate in Governor Seyi Makinde, and we have worked out strategies to ensure not only that we win the ballot but also that our winning votes are firmly protected.”

He added: “We are working hard and will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to mobilise Nigerians for this election. We have assembled very credible hands to manage our campaign. We will unveil our campaign machinery to the public soon.”

Growing Anti-APC Sentiment

The APM spokesman cited growing public disillusionment with President Tinubu’s administration, arguing that Nigerians were eager to oust the APC from power.

“Most Nigerians have expressed their readiness to vote in Seyi Makinde as the credible alternative to President Tinubu,” Abubakar said. “Of course, last Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State has demonstrated the power of the people in an election. Come January 2027, Nigerians will speak with one voice for Seyi Makinde.”

Appeal to INEC and Security Agencies

Abubakar called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that the 2027 elections are free, fair, credible, and reflective of the genuine will of the people as expressed at the ballot box.
