KATSINA – The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 188 suspects and rescued 12 kidnapped victims in a sustained crackdown on criminal networks throughout March 2026.
Spokesman Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday in Katsina, describing the operation as part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry, cattle rustling, arms trafficking, and other violent crimes.
He attributed the successes to intelligence-led operations, strengthened inter-agency collaboration, and sustained patrols in high-risk areas.
According to Mr Sadiq-Aliyu, the breakdown of arrests includes 14 suspected armed robbers, two gunrunners, one suspected car thief, five bandit informants, 14 homicide suspects, 20 suspected rapists, and 22 individuals involved in illegal drug peddling. A notorious gang member allegedly linked to the killing of one Abu Abbasi was also apprehended.
The command dismantled criminal networks supplying logistics to bandits in the Dutsinma and Safana council areas, the spokesman added.
All 12 rescued victims have received medical attention and have been reunited with their families.
Recovered items include two PKT rifles, two AK-47 rifles, three locally fabricated firearms, two ammunition belts, 974 rounds of live ammunition, 30 stolen animals, and five motorcycles used in criminal activities.
Mr Sadiq-Aliyu said the achievements were made possible through targeted raids on criminal hideouts, increased surveillance on major highways, and proactive community policing initiatives. He commended other security agencies and local communities for their support, noting that joint patrols and real-time intelligence sharing had enhanced operational efficiency.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to remain vigilant. Suspicious activities should be reported to the following numbers: 08156977777, 09022209690, and 07072722539.
